“Black living, black thriving, black fulfilment must matter. Black lives must matter at every moment – we should not have to die before the question of our humanity is brought into the national discourse. Black lives are under attack by the prison complex, by mass unemployment and destitution, by militarized educational institutions that seek to invalidate our experiences. Blacks are underrepresented in higher education, and many drop out, due to discriminating university policies and racist campus cultures. Black students across the nation drafted a list of demands to challenge predominantly white learning institutions, including the Black Student Union of University of San Diego.” Rayne Ibarra-Brown, University of San Diego
THIS HAS TO STOP-TIME TO MOBILIZE IN SAN DIEGO AND PUT AN END TO POLICE BRUTALIZING AND MURDERING PEOPLE AND END INSTITUTIONAL RACISM!
#BlackLivesMatter was created in 2012 by Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was post-humously placed on trial for his own murder. Rooted in the experiences of Black people in this country who actively resist our de-humanization, #BlackLivesMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society. Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes. Black Lives Matter is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life. We are working to (re)build the Black liberation movement. http://blacklivesmatter.com/about/ SDStolenBlackLives killed by San Diego Law Enforcement
