In October 2014, Eric Smith, a 15 yr old Lincoln High School Freshman was slammed to the concrete by an officer performing a vascular neck restraint, also known as a “chokehold.” Cell phone video shows there was no resistance from Smith during the incident with San Diego Police officer on the Lincoln High School campus. The SDPD officer was on campus assisting a San Diego Unified School District officer during a school event. The student taking the cell phone video can be heard yelling “Look at what they’re doing to this kid.” Even after the incident, he also suspended for three days???!!!!
I/We DEMAND the IMMEDIATE termination of the officer involved in the choking of Lincoln High School Student back in October 2014.
and also DEMAND COPS STAY OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS!!!
From Desiree Smith, mother of Eric Smith
“My baby was bruised and sore for week. He was up pacing the floors at night taking lil cat naps jumping out his sleep. He was in depression mode. The teachers have harassed him. I’ve been called over him throwing trash away, to falling asleep in class then the part about him wearing the hoodie…. Ask what are the the certain circumstances. Because at no time was the officers life in danger to warrant the excessive force.. .. I had just transfer him so he could play football. Prior to transferring he was on the Honor Roll. He is still struggling to focus. The teacher harasses him. I’ve gotten calls over him getting up to throw trash away. Over him wearing his hoodie. (he lost his pick n couldn’t pick out his afro… ) but he was in class… not ditching… he use to love school…. They stole his innocence.”
#SDPD ruled it #Justified A complaint was filed with Internal Affairs, complaint was unfounded?!!!!
“It’s allowed under certain circumstances” said SDPD Captain Jorge Duran, who added the move is permitted under the department’s force matrix guidelines.
MEANWHILE! In SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR!

Supervisor Bill Horn said, “expanding the number of resource officers in our schools, it really does create a safer running environment. These kids, This is a formational age, and if they realize they have to obey the rules, maybe this will have a long standing benefit to us if we can keep some of these kids out of jail, keep them out of gangs.”
