Stop Police Abuse in California | American Civil Liberties Union

AB 953 & AB 619 will give us information we need to identify racial disparities and other patterns in policing, and ways to avoid the tragic loss of life.
Join thousands of ACLU supporters who agree: Every Californian deserves to be treated with dignity & respect.

As the nation has witnessed in recent months, it’s almost impossible to hold problem officers accountable. That’s why California needs to collect data on police/community interactions – and make that information available to the public. In order to pinpoint and fix problems with policing, we need to start with the data.

Although many people of color – and other members of marginalized communities – have experienced biased policing and police abuse, these experiences are often dismissed as isolated incidents instead of part of a systemic law enforcement problem.
Urge the California legislature and Governor Brown to pass and sign these two important police reform bills. Together AB 953 & AB 619 will help increase police accountability, improve community safety, and protect the fundamental rights of all Californians.
