March 18, 2015 (San Diego) If I told you that what I found in the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) report surprising, I would be lying. What we would like to see though, is more transparency from the police department and it’s leaders. I understand that a Chief’s job is to protect the troops. But when the Chief still talks a good game about her department doing community policing, even after asked, about her officers “chasing the radio,” it feels odd. The PERF also raised this with a quote near the end.
When a Chief turns her back when problems with the Field Training Office are raised that’s a problem. The PERF also pointed to them. I understand when Captains no longer want to talk to the public, but not having your side of things in a media report, is not precisely good in public relations…
